Where We Began (Where We Began Duet Book 1) Kindle Edition
I'm a hostage.
The food is fancy, the carpets are lush, but this bed isn't mine. I'm only here because of my father's enemies.
I hate all of them. Except for him.
The first time I meet Dominic Bradley, he saves me without a second thought. This kind boy is nothing like the rest of his family. Our friendship comes easy.
When he leaves for six years it shreds my soul.
It's nothing compared to when he comes back.
He's turned into a hardened soldier with hungry eyes; a man that makes my heart race.
A man that wants to hate me while also aching to be my first kiss. My first everything.
He acts like we're enemies, like he's forgotten our past. But I can't.
It's impossible to forget the moment I fell in love.
I know where we began.
I'm not sure where we'll end.
Filthy... heart-stopping... you'll become obsessed with knowing how it ends.

About the author
Nora grew up as (and still is) a huge anime and fantasy nerd. She's always had her nose in a book, and when that wasn't enough, she started writing them. Originally from tiny little Rhode Island, she decided to run off to where it was warmer and now lives in Los Angeles. When she isn't writing about broody heroes she's spending time in the pool with her young son and hilarious husband. Her favorite food is sushi and she eats as much of it as her mouth can dare fit. She also doesn't know what sleep is.

Dominic and Laiken are two people whose lives reflect the secrets and lies of their parents, who were once apparently in the business of banking together, and, in book one of this romantic-suspense duet, the plot gets thicker and the romance gets hotter!
Her fate is wrapped in her father’s debt. Growing up in an idyllic and isolated spot in the forest, revelling in the close bond with her older sister, Laiken at 12, never questioned her father’s reasoning that there were no other people nearby because they didn’t understand the beauty of nature. She didn’t understand what was happening when people showed up to take one of his children, Laiken herself, away to live with them. Who was Joseph Laurel and what he done that one of his kids had to be taken hostage to control him?
Dominic was also 12 and had never been loved by his parents. Not knowing what it is that he’d ever done wrong, he still tried his best to gain their approval. Becoming friends with the new girl now living with his parents, Dominic enjoyed his month with her before being sent away to military school. Upon returning six years, he vows never to let them down - again. He’s certainly not Laiken’s childhood friend anymore, but he is one all gorgeous, muscled, tattooed and holy crap on a cracker HOT male! Even as he betrays Laiken to keep the approval of his parents, we see from his POV that he’s in deep, and knowing that when she finds out his secrets, she’s gonna hate him, he is still bound by his need for her.
After six years Laiken is still as isolated ever, and sees her sister again at a fabulous event hosted by her captors – shocked at the revelation that Kara and Dominic know each other. He’s kept his own secrets from her, but she’ll hear them from Kara, and they’ll devastate her.
She just may have been able to face her future with him, until her past comes bursting back in with a cold shoulder that she’ll never be able to lean on again. Where We Began ends in one hell of a cliff-hanger, but, don’t let it put you off. The next one isn’t far away, and it’s worth waiting for. 5 stars.
Can't say I'm sorry.
I didn't really know what to expect. I was already familiar with the writing style, which pretty much flowed, so I wanted to know exactly what the story was about; who these characters were.
I'll try to keep it simple and spoiler-free. It starts with the past, to give us a better understanding of the backgrounds of our main characters. Laiken's life is turned upside down when she finds out some secrets that were kept from her and she ends up living with Dom. Of course that, given the circumstances, the two kids end up becoming friends but it all ends when Dom has to leave.
I liked that Laiken was strong, throughout it all. She was a hostage; she didn't get to see her family but she kept hoping, one day, she will and that she'd also end up seeing Dominic again.
But when Dom returns, he's not the same little boy Laiken used to know.
With all kinds of suspense and hot scenes, this one will keep you on your toes, while the ending will leave you wanting, needing for more - that's what happened to me - and it will give you a hangover. So, be ready. Luckily, book 2 will be out soon enough.
I voluntarily agreed to read an early copy of this book and my rating is 4.5 stars.
Laiken and her sister Kara grew up happy. They were best friends, thick as thieves, and did everything together...including paying for their father's sins. At a young age they were separated. Laiken was taken to keep her father in check and Kara stayed with the family. That brought an unexpected halt to their happy childhood. Laiken is strong, determined and brave. She knows she will be home soon. Laiken is now living, under duress, miles away in Massachusetts.
Dominic is the son of Annie, the woman who took her. Laiken and Dominic bond almost instantly. He becomes her only friend in a world full of enemies. Soon Laiken learns that her friend and now confidant is going away to school. Laiken is now alone.
Years pass and Laiken adjusts to her new life. Dominic returns. This Dominic is not the kind hearted boy she once knew. This Dominic is a man. Stronger. Darker. Nothing resembling the boy she once knew. He's cold. He's a monster.
They need to find a way to coexist so Laiken decides to help sort out the mess her father has left. They begin to work together. An awkward but sensual kiss leads to flirtation, but Laiken is cautious. She needs to get home to her family, not flirt with her captor's son. Dominic is not cautious. All bets are off. Dominic is going after what he wants, what he's always wanted...Laiken.
Laiken's father may have betrayed Dominic's family, but her father was loving, kind and caring. Dominic's family is ruthless. Dominic returned home one of them-Ruthless. Heartless. He has a secret Laiken doesn't know. She already hates his family, but this secret, would it make her hate him as well?
THIS STORY WAS AMAZING AND HOOKED ME RIGHT FROM THE START ! FILLED WITH MISCONSTRUED INTENTIONS AND INCESSANT FLIRTING WITH LUSTFUL CRAVING ! ! !
