Lucia is an immigrant in America, living the dream. When the book she wrote gets to be made into a film, finally putting her life from book to the big screen, it’s all she can think about. That is until she meets Reece.
Reece is a one time swimming gold medalist, now running his family film industry business. When he meets Lucia he finds friendship first, which leads to so much more. Learning about her life and what she went through to get where she is today, and the struggles of always looking over her shoulder, only makes reece more determined to make the film and life with Lucia work.
The ups and downs, during the fight to keep what they have, had me wanting more from each page I read, and the hot sex scenes were a delightful bonus.
It was beautifully and true-fully written, describing the sins of the fathers and how they come back to bite their children through no fault of their own.
Books after fifty
A very enjoyable read.
Lucia and Reece were two very strong characters; my admiration for these two grew with each page I turned. Lucias’s situation was one that I did not know much about before reading this. The first few chapters set the scene well as I gained some insight and understanding into how she was feeling.
There were times throughout the book where I just wanted to flick to the end to see how the story would finish, but I didn’t and not doing so led to me experiencing a beautifully well told story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This was a love story with a serious side story and message. It opened my eyes to issues I had never thought about or come across in my daily life. Thank you Dylan Allen, for teaching me something that I knew nothing about.

Dylan has delivered such a profound & epic story of life. It is real, honest & tragic, but before I go any further i want to say that I can totally see this story as a movie. I can visualise the characters so vividly, hear their words so clearly & feel the entire kaleidoscope of emotions so deeply that the good, bad & sheer ugly left an imprint on my soul.
It’s been a long while since a book moved me, but as soon as I started I was lost to words that not only opened my eyes, but also my heart, to the unimaginable struggle of our heroine - Lucia Vega. The life she has lived is inspirational yet tragic all in one go, as she tried desperately every single day, to hide in the shadows, scared of all the ‘what if’s’ but equally sick & tired of all the ‘why’s’ & ‘how’s’. She was so strong & courageous in her thoughts & actions, that I couldn't help but give her my heart. She was the most perfect heroine in the most imperfect world.
This girl deserved a beautiful life in all ways possible - including the love of a great man, so I adored how Reece truly was the kind of hero who wasn't afraid to work hard at earning the love & trust of this amazing woman. His role was so important in her journey & even though this strong, protective man had his own flaws, he never once disappointed me
This is so much more than a story of love. It’s a story of loss & forgiveness, anguish & hurt, but most of all, it's a story of faith & hope in all things. Just beautiful.
I can't recommend this enough, one of my Top Reads of 2017

The subject of this story plot was a real eye opener for me, and I felt totally heartbroken for Lucia, angry at the fear she lived in and how a decision made for her would burden her life . It broadens the readers knowledge and delves deeper into topics we don’t understand fully or even know enough about. Lucia is strong, beautiful and talented but when with Reece I found her confidence grows and this character deserves happiness.
To start I wasn’t hooked, I’m not a lover of slow burn but the story definitely progresses, Lucia and Reece have explosive chemistry, and their love is special and meaningful.
The last 25% I read quicker than the whole book, my heart was beating so fast and I felt so nervous, I just couldn’t predict how this was going to end. Dylan defo had me hanging on by a thread…. It was touch and go for a HEA!
Now to meet Graham in ‘the sun and her star’

Lucia Vega is a figment. She is a pen name, an LLC and the author of the incredibly successful story, Throw Away the Key. The woman behind the facade is Ana Maria de la Vega Rios, a twenty three year old undocumented alien, living life under the radar. In America since she was two years old, she has kept her head down for her entire existence, until now. Her book, sold as a work of fiction, has topped the bestseller charts, and she has been tapped to write the screenplay to turn it into a movie.
Reece Carras is Hollywood’s golden boy. A former Olympic swimming champion, Reece now heads the incredibly successful family film production company, Artemis. And at his urging, the company has now optioned Lucia’s book for a major motion picture. But from the moment Reece meets Lucia, he is captivated by much more than her story, he is enthralled by the person, the mystery that she is.
Sparks fly between the two at their every meeting, but both know they are treading in dangerous waters. They agree to be friends while the screenplay is being written. Lucia will teach Reece yoga, and Reece will coach her to learn how to swim. But, eventually, they are unable to keep their passion in check. However, both are hiding secrets- life-altering secrets. When what they have been hiding is revealed, they will have to redefine their lives as they know them. Lucia will need to draw upon the strength of friends and family to find forgiveness. And Reece will have to reset his priorities and future goals to adjust for Lucia’s DREAMER status.
This book will give you the feels that many a romance novel does. And you’ll swoon and sigh at Reece’s devotion to Lucia. And you’ll cry and fret when they run into the inevitable crises that any couple does. But then you will realize that the issues Lucia and Reece face, are not those of your average love story. And hopefully, just maybe, you’ll walk away from this book at the very least curious about those issues, and at best motivated to see what role you can play in their solution.
I applaud Dylan Allen’s courage for writing a romance novel that crosses the line into relevant politics. Through a slow burning story of love in present times, Dylan familiarizes us all with the struggle of the DREAMERs and tackles head-on a political issue that can not be swept under the rug. I would give this book 5 stars for the story and Dylan 10 for her bravery.
