The Vow: A Best Friend's Brother Romance (Manhattan Nights Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 1,100 ratings

ELSIE
I thought a “vow” could keep me and my best friend’s brother apart.
I was wrong.

It’s been seven years since I’ve seen my first love—my best friend Kayla’s hotter than Hell-in-July older brother Brett.

But when trouble follows me on my new move to NYC, I find myself walking into his tattoo shop with no one to turn to for help…but him.

"Elsie and Brett are perfectly imperfect. This fantastic book is a serious must read." - Desired Reads Book Blog

"The Vow is an amazing story! Phenomenal. I could NOT put this down even though other things demanded my attention. Brett was the "golden boy" from a young age, but as this boy grew up into a man, he turned to the other side, a bad boy. His character completely took me off guard and I love that." - Julianna, Amazon Review

A lot to this read regarding our two main characters, Elle and Brett, who spent one night together in their teens and each made a vow. That was 7 years ago, both still remembering and loving the other while both in NYC. They had a rough start seeing each other and this story shows the extremes ups and downs a relationship goes through til the couple decides how it ends. Enjoyed the Epilogues at the end of this story. A lot of depth an drama .

Was a nice quick read. The story line was a little messy, unbelievable, and at times predictable, but overall the characters were interesting and developed.

Overall an okay read for me but I found parts of the plot a little confusing... just didn't get what the danger of Brett's father brought unless I missed it. The tattoo artist and wannabe singer with a whole history together was interesting and was basically a second chance romance. But I did take awhile to get into the story and the confusing portions had me putting down my kindle a couple of times. Not sure if I will be continuing the series though.

When she was 16 all of Elsie’s teenage dreams came true when she gave herself to the man she has loved for years, Brett, who also happened to be her best friend’s older brother. When he decided to leave her and his family behind without a second glance she vowed to never let him near enough to either touch or hurt her again.

Seven years later Elsie is pursuing her dream of music in NY when she finds herself without a place to stay. Having no other option, she goes to the one person she never wanted to see again, Brett. The feelings between them are stronger than ever but will this be their second chance or is Elsie destined for heartbreak once again?

Although they may appear to be opposites there are so many layers to Brett yet to be revealed. They must work through their past as it isn’t as simple as Elsie believes.

Elsie was Brett's little sister Kayla's best friend. She was also the girl whom he fell in love with as a teenager. The girl who's love and virginity he seemed to take and not have her be more than a dirty little secret. So after a rather unpleasant exchange she walks away from him. Then he seemly abandons her when he turned 18, walking away with no explanation. However the truth was he was abused and abandoned by his father. Now that she's 23 yrs old and in New York to prepare for an audition & her chance at a singing career in a contest, he will become her savior and more. The more she tries to resist seeing him & fight her feelings the more she needs him and stronger their connection becomes. The more she sees he's not the man she thinks he is the more her lust and love becomes obvious. And this time Brett will stop at nothing to have what and who he's always wanted. And being Kayla's best friend isn't going to get in the way. Nor will an abusive father, a shady producer, nor a junkie ex girlfriend. Brett Jackson is ready to extend his tattoo shop and forever love Elsie Carpenter.

A fire that doesn't die, despite 7 years worth of distance.

Elsie had a crush on her best friends oldest brother, a crush that turned a lot more intimate.
She hates lying to her friend, she hates being his secret, so she ends it, vowing to never be with him again.

7yrs later she is chasing her dream, only problem? She's in a city of sharks playing a game she doesn't even know she is a part of. She has no-one else so she turns to him, Brett Jackson. Tattoo God and sexiest man alive. Except, he is still a jerk!
Her coming back into his life, sets him on fire again. She is his everything, she always was. Problem? She hates his guts!!

He has signed a deal with the devil, she is making her dream come true. Can they make it? With all the obstacles and lies around them, is there even a chance?

This book could have been better. I enjoyed most of it, even if I couldn’t stand Elsie. There were just too many questions left unanswered. Like did Sophie know about Elsie and Brett before she moved to NYC? That is the impression I got after the scene with Reed and Sophie at the end. I actually would have liked to know more about how that whole situation plays out with Brett and Elsie. The whole thing just seemed unfinished with a lackluster ending. I won’t continue the series at all.

Ms. Wrye has done it yet again! She's played my emotions like a master conductor leads an orchestra...and left me wanting more at the end of it!

The Vow is an intense, best friend's brother/second chance romance that wrapped itself around my heart AFTER it tossed it around and tore it apart. I can honestly say that I didn't like Brett very much (putting it VERY mildly) for a good part of this story but as it unfolded and his secrets were uncovered I found myself slowly warming up to him until I eventually fell head-over-heels in love! My heart hurt for him and all that he's endured to protect those that he loves...and Elsie is one of them! I adored Elsie...her spirit, her toughness, her strength and her vulnerability made me want to hug her and tell her she should follow what her heart keeps INSISTING is right...and to not take EVERYTHING at face value! Sometimes there are shocking and heartbreaking reasons for the things that people do and we need to try and discover WHY they do what they do!

I highly recommend this steamy, sexy, delicious love story to ANYONE who loves twists and unexpected turns along with some drama and angst in their books! Natalie Wrye is an auto-click author for me who NEVER disappoints!

4.0 out of 5 stars A rainy day read

Had this on my Kindle a while, and decided to spend an extremely wet Saturday reading it, well inbetween feeding the children. It had an Addictive start but gets a bit maudlin for a few chapters and you do wander where the story is going to take you. Regardless it's a second chance romance with lots of twists in the story. The main characters Brett and Elsie are both trying to make it and become successes in their respective fields but there are people who have other agendas and trampling their dreams are part of it. Brett and Elsie make it, only just, but you know there will be more to this story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy read but lacked development

This was the first story by this author that I’ve read, and I wasn’t sold by it! I don’t always leave reviews, but as it would appear that I’m in the minority, I thought I’d share.
The premise of the story was good but unfortunately I’ve read better. There were a couple of storylines within the story that seemed to be in there for padding only, but had they been developed, the book could have been better. I kept reading purely to finish in case it got better, but it didn’t. As an ‘easy read’ it was ok. I got this as a free download.
