The Tenth Girl (The Tenth Girl Series) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 1,337 ratings

Never play a game you can't win. For Cain Kent, that rule is golden. Losing is not in his vocabulary, and up until now, everything has come easy. Football, school, girls ... his charm-laced ego may just be bigger than Texas itself. The competition he started freshman year with his friends, to make ten notches each in their bedposts by graduation day, is practically in the bag. One more to go, and then it's off to college fame and eventually, the big time. Attachments aren't something he wants to form, but when the quiet new girl challenges him in front of his classmates, his curiosity is piqued. She would be the perfect final score, and what fun to break her in the process. Too bad Harper Posy has no intention of being just another warm body, especially to the bad boy quarterback. Even if he does quote Forster and Huxley when no one is listening. An aspiring author herself, Cain and his hidden soft side are dangerous to her heart. She's seen men ruin her mother's dreams time and again, and she's determined to fly far away as soon as she has that diploma in her fist. But as the school year’s end looms closer, both realize they didn’t quite understand the rules to begin with. Is winning a dirty bet worth the gamble when the stakes, or the other’s heart in this case, are so high? Harper is the one girl who isn't up for playing games. And she just might make Cain lose. Everything.

Author of romance novels such as Fleeting and Love at First Fight, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. Her stories are fueled by vanilla lattes, meloncholy music, and copious amounts of candles.

When she isn't writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She lives in farm country with her husband, two children and ninety-pound rescue pup.

3.5⭐️’s.

The Tenth Girl is about a lot of things and everything teen related. It is set around a couple in their senior year of high school. One is the beloved quarterback jock, the other has transferred from another school and likes to write. The thing that bonds them together is the love of books. The situation that is their undoing is competition, and it's not between each other.

Cain Kent is one that you will hate/love, and in that order. He starts out as the obnoxious boob that thinks he is God and nothing will stand in his path. Along the way, he learns to trust and open up, and becomes a man. One that is sweet and kind and selfless. Harper Posy has learnt to grow up quickly from losing a parent and it is her mum and herself alone in the world. They move back to her mother's home town to live with her grandmother and Harper gleans some new friends. Never did she expect to connect with her English classmate, especially after their first encounter.

If you like your teen high school drama books, you will revel in this one. And on the norm, I do enjoy them too. This time it was a little too high on the teen angst for me, and it had a sense of immaturity about it. The story line in itself was fine and had a very familiar feel. I would have like to have seen something new or more gripping in the plot.

All the heart eyes for this one. Such a great read. Books like this are why I love YA romance. The tummy butterflies, the stupid decisions, the heartbreak, the friendships - soooo good!

Cain is the quintessential jock, the star QB, Mr Popular who can get any girl with the click of his fingers. Harper is the quiet, studious girl who has no idea just how gorgeous she is. A bet turns into more, until it means everything!

I loved the dual POV, the dialogue was witty and realistic, the pace was great and I was really sad when the story ended. Definitely recommend.

I have read other books by Carrie before, and when this came up, I was like yes please!! I had to read it.

Now I loved this book, I really did, but I think Cain kind of turned me off from it. I didn't like him at all at the beginning and all I wanted to do was reach through the book and throat punch him so hard for acting like he did.

But, in saying that, the writing style of Carrie is so great. I did however, find myself reading the book, but not really taking in any of the words of the book, as I felt it was just a bit of filling in the middle, but I don't want to take away from Carrie and her writing. I want to be honest, and found that some of it was a little bit of waffling to fill the middle bit, maybe it's just me.

I really loved Harper though. Her strong will, being headstrong, clearly thinking about things before she acts, and her love of books!

I did really like the flow of the book, and how the characters developed and things that happened in the book (don't wanna spoil it for those that haven't read it).

Harper moves to her mom's hometown in Haven Texas, and has to start over a new high school that is a lot smaller than where she grew up. She meets Cain......

Cain is in a competition with his football buddies, and needs to bag just one more girl to win and win the Atrium for the summer. In walks Harper.

Cain and Harper go back and forth throughout the whole book, and I think it's great, the banter that they have with one another.

Harpers mom starts dating again, and it ends up being with a dad of one of the girls at school, who ends up being her rival.

OMG! I love the grandmother so much!! She cracks me up so much!! She's stern but will stick up for her family no matter what.

Cain gets hurt, and Harper has to keep it a secret, and also doesn't know the extent of how bad it is. Until her rival from school tells her.

Cain is a closet nerd, but keeps it hidden from his football buddies, as he doesn't want to get made fun of. But Harper sees the hidden side to him.

Does Harper find out about the competition with Cain and his friends? Can she publish her book, and get what she wants from it all? Does Cain make it to College Football, and ultimately his dream, NFL?

I loved the way she portrayed each character and really described each and every emotion in such great detail so you could almost feel it yourself.

Não gostei, lembra o twist do livro After da Anna, aposta para tirar a virgindade da mocinha e o Baby boy se apaixonar...

Tem tanto livro bacana aqui, esse não vale a leitura.

ESP ::

ENG ::

I loved the story! New girl in town and popular jock fall in love in an unexpected way.
A bet, gossip and other factors threaten this love.

The story is amazingly written, in a realistic yet romantic way, making the book incredible.

Another thing that I loved is that the MC love reading but not in an obnoxious way, just quoting classic authors. They mention amazing contemporary pieces and cool authors that are also great! It was refreshing and I loved it!

And the grandma... I love her ❤️

I have been a fan of Carrie Aarons since her Privileged series. There is something about the way she writes her mean boys that I love. She gets the Enemies to Lovers chemistry and banter right but it has that something extra to leave its mark on you. This novel was absolutely delicious and I was obsessed with every word!

Gahh!! I seriously LOVED Harper and Cain. The sassy, independent, new girl and the boy who has the world falling at his feet. I loved their banter and the way Harper gave it to Cain so well. She gave as good as she got and was the only girl who could bring him to his knees. This storyline is my absolute favorite. Mean boy meets Good girl and then we sit back and see the fireworks explode. I loved the premise of the bet and how horrible Cain was at first. It was explosive, fiery and insanely hot!!

Ultimately, I loved how Harper became Cain's exception and how in the end how their connection set them apart. This story was utterly romantic and swoony with the edge that I need. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

Natürlich ist der Verlauf der Geschichte etwas vorhersehbar. Anders kann sie gar nicht verlaufen. Sie ist dennoch eine gute unterhaltsames Geschichte, die am Ende perfekt endet.

I stayed up till midnight to finish this last night and I don’t regret it. Cain and Harper are so sweet together and I really enjoyed reading their story. Oh and his southern twang got me every time. This Brit girl melts for that accent every time!
