The Puppetmaster Kindle Edition

I don't just own. I make them dance.

My name makes their hearts beat with desire and their skin tickle with sweet fear. They call me The Puppetmaster. And when I’m on the hunt, they come running—willing to serve at my feet, because no one makes my puppets dance like I do.
But my heart almost stops when I see
her name on the list. Alena Prey, you wreak havoc with a plan I’ve had for years, but it won’t stop me from reaching my goal — a goal that you’re destined to be a part of.
But this is not how it was supposed to happen.

Not now. Not like this. And yet it will...

A true story about trust. Alena carries a dark secret that few know about but the guilty weighs her down. Having to struggle to survive in a rough part of Brooklyn is the life she knows. Supporting herself and her younger sister after their mother's death makes her as tough as her surroundings. She reached a breaking point at her job when her boss belittles her yet again for her ideas in front of co workers and she sits. They say when one door closed another opens. Well her door opens for her at The Velvet Rooms for a hunt by none other than The Puppetmaster. Raad likes having control of all things but most of all his puppets. His shock is evident when he sees the name of a late entry for the hunt but the timing of making her his is not supposed to be yet. He has specific plans but it shouldn't surprise him that where Alena is involved his control slips. Alena needs to be his puppet so he can break her and out her back together without the guilty she carries and she knows there is an expiration date for their time together. Raad knows everything about Alena including her secret but she doesn't even think he knows her name. She was always meant to be his last puppet for other reasons than to keep her but when she betrays his trust to find answers to his secrets, she may no longer be his. Will Raad be able to prove the truth to her or will the sight of her hurt be the last image her has?? How can she trust him when he's been hiding the truth all this time?? A truly powerful story of two people that need each other not only for what they can give but what they can take. Truth is a powerful thing that can also destroy. The scenes are erotic but there is more to this story than just that. Raad and Alena make each other whole when they didn't realize something as missing. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and purchased a copy for my favorites collection. Looking forward to more from Linnea May and more trips to the Velvet Rooms!!!

Life hasn't been easy for Alena Prey and she has had to learn to survive by going after what she wanted. But what she wants now, having just quit her job in total frustration because she believed she was being unreasonably held back, is to let go and give up control for once in her life. To quiet the noisy voices in her head, constantly pushing her to action. What she wants is to be the Puppetmaster's next project.

(Michael) Raad Brower is the Puppetmaster, and he has been training his chosen puppets to dance for him for several years. He completely controls their lives while they remain with him, and he decides when their time with him is over.

Right from the start it is clear that there is a special connection, only Raad knows of, with Alena Prey, and that he has been involved in her life, in some capacity, long before she is chosen as his puppet. We get hints and flashbacks about this throughout the book, but the reason is unclear, which adds to the story's allure. We are also aware that Raad's emotional connection with and feelings for Alena run much deeper than for his previous puppets.

As well told and enjoyable as this story was, and as interesting as I found both Alena and Raad, I never fully connected with either character. I'm not sure if this had more to do with the fact that my own life has been very hectic lately (and I haven't had much time to read), or due to something missing between the story and me. Regardless, it was never a book I wanted to put down or stop reading. I would grab it again as soon as I could. And that speaks quite well of my interest.

I really enjoy reading books by Linnea May and this one is no different. I strongly recommend it, but would also suggest you do what I say rather than what I do, and read the book without frequent interruptions.

Such a wonderful premise that was clouded by too much mystery. I couldn’t enjoy the puppet part because of all of the secrets that were dangled from the very beginning of the story. I got frustrated and skipped huge portions of the characters’ inner dialogues about how this is so different and why can’t I tell them the truth, blah blah blah. I got bored with the whole thing.
