The Consequence of Rejection Kindle Edition
You know the universe is trying to tell you something when you get struck by lightning, but only after getting hit on by the elderly, almost getting run over by a semi, and running into the one who got away.
Why do they say it like that anyway?
Like I accidentally lost her when she was the one that got in the car with my best friend and left me.
The day after I proposed.
We were eighteen.
I wanted forever.
She didn't.
It's been ten years.
I tried to move on, tried to get married, had that same wedding crashed by my now best friend who says the only way for me to stop pissing off the universe, is to gain closure with the one woman I can't forget.
So I do it.
I embark on a journey down memory lane that not only lands me in prison but on the receiving end of a fist fight in front of the entire town, this naturally happens after drunken pool sex, climbing the same girl's window, and getting threatened at gunpoint by her father.
To say the universe is trying to tell me something anything, is a giant understatement.
I just hope I survive the message.
And then, I hope I survive her—again.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the one who broke Jason's heart coming back. I was conflicted. I love a good second chance romance, but I hated what she did to him back in the day.
I shouldn't have worried, Ms Van Dyken brought things full circle with The Consequence of Rejection.
I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more. My heart hurt for Jason as he tries to find his way back to his love, and she frustrated me so much, the way she left him but expected him to just forget things. She still felt a little juvenile at times, but I guess that is because of the trip down memory lane.
My main man Max is back big time in story. Oh boy, he had me in stitches though I could completely understand how he could be annoying to those around him! When he, Colt, Reid and Jason are all together - well, you never know what is going to happen next!
And you never know what the consequences will be when you reconnect with your long lost love.
Thank you Ms Van Dyken for another wonderful new book.
I can't wait to see what comes next.
Jason never got over the fact that his high school sweetheart, one-and-only, woman he wanted forever with left him the day after he asked her to marry him. NOT ONLY LEFT HIM, but ran out of town with his supposed best friend... Now that Maddie is back he has to somehow reign in all the emotions that are ticking over and figure out how to stop the Universe being so mad at him. Between old lady Ethel, the door of his truck being ripped off, and being struck by lightning it's only a matter of time before the Universe puts an end to him. Unfortunately for Jason, his NOT best-friend Max is determined as only Max can be to set things right with the Universe.
Maddie hated having to move back home but the situation necessitated it. Working as a waitress and having to wait on her ex-fiancé and love of her life while he is out to dinner with a much older woman, weird and depressing. Finding out how badly she hurt him, sad and yet hopeful. Her fear caused her to run all those years ago but she isn't going to be afraid anymore. Unless it is lightning because with Jason's luck, it could strike twice.
Hilarious and emotional at just the right balance. Well-paced and well-written (as always) I absolutely adored this story. Told in dual POV, complete story with HEA. Enjoy!
Right from the start I was hooked. I literally read this in a couple of hours. The level of intensity in this book was so high. I just had to know what was going to happen. Even though there were tiny little parts where I think I would’ve picked up on which characters belonged where, had I read the previous books first, I had no trouble understanding the storyline of this one.
I’m not entirely sure that I really liked either Maddy or Jason, and Max just plain drove me nuts half the time, but this story was so unputdownable it isn’t funny. I was determined to see what happened and ride the highs and lows. It was like a constant state of angst.
I felt the ending was a little rushed, I would’ve liked a bit more closure, but it was all rounded out quite well otherwise.
I did enjoy this and would recommend.

Jason has been unlucky in love, and well life, for the past ten years, since the love of his life, Maddy, left him high and dry with no explanation, now she's back in town and he doesn't know how to handle it, so his band of friends decide to help him get closure so he can hopefully lose his bad luck streak and finally move on with this life. If you've read any of the previous books (which you do NOT have to) you'll know that this is NEVER a good idea, especially if Max is involved, and only bad and unfortunate things can come to Jason, and trust me.. they do and it's hilarious.
Maddy ran 10 years ago from the love of her life, and as the story progresses, we get to know why she left, and as much as I didn't want to like her, I adored her, and was rooting for her and Jason to finally get their second chance.
With Max involved in the scheme to either get Jason to move on, or to get the girl, you know there is going to be shenanigans and I will say I was laughing out loud the majority of this book. The parts in front of each chapter with Max's gems from his book, OMG, priceless, and made this book so much better, and truly helped put into perspective what to expect going into the chapter.
The road for Jason and Maddy wasn't easy, it wasn't going to be easy without the gang there to cause a ruckus, but include them, and it was 100x worse. I was hooked into this book, and couldn't stop reading to see how and if they were going to be able to make it. There was so much hurt, but the feelings were still there. And the prologue into this book, bad me guessing all throughout the book on what happened to get them to the point once again.
I will say there is angst in this book, but just the right amount. The laughter, antics, and everything else totally outweighs the rest, and if you're looking for a light read, this is the perfect one to one-click. I am a huge lover of second chance romances, as well as romantic comedies, so put them together, and you have a winner from me. I absolutely adored how we got to see the whole gang together in this book, so if you've read the previous titles you get to see them, but if you haven't you get to meet them and then you'll want to read their books too, and I am thrilled with how Rachel did Jason's story, it was the perfect story for him, and I am so happy to see him get his HEA finally. I am just now sad that these characters all now have their HEA and now we have to say goodbye. These have been some of my favorite characters to love and enjoy and I am so glad that this series of stand-alone's ended on such a high note. I highly encourage you if you're a lover of second chance romances and want to read a book that will have you laughing so hard at times you'll have tears in your eyes, to grab a copy of The Consequence of Rejection by Rachel Van Dyken today!

Maddy Summers was Jason’s high school sweetheart; he wanted to give her everything, but all she gave him was a broken heart, so when she returns to their hometown, there are unresolved feelings and questions that force them to go back 10 years ago when Maddy left town and took Jason’s heart with her. There are consequences to both of their actions – the ones in the present as well as the ones from when they were a couple, and now that it looks like they will be in each other’s space for the foreseeable future, they need to at least come to a truce and learn how to be around one another, especially when it’s clear that their feelings never dissipated regardless of the decade they’ve been apart.
I love second chance romances; the fact that the hero and heroine already have history together definitely makes their reunion more intriguing, and then when you add in Max’s disastrous plan and Jason’s last ditch effort to stop ticking off the universe, it’s one heck of a hilarious, chaotic romantic comedy that finally gives Jason his shot at forever.
There are so many laugh out loud moments in The Consequence of Rejection that I couldn’t stop giggling, which makes sense because Jason’s new bff, Max, is hell bent on helping Jason by any means necessary, and of course, Max calls in Colt and Reid as reinforcement, even though Jason will probably need saving from them more so than from Maddy.
I do have to admit, though, that I feel like Max’s hijinks and big personality, at times, overshadowed Jason and Maddy’s story. Max is definitely an in-your-face kind of guy and he just so happens to be Jason’s self-proclaimed best friend; Max’s role in reuniting his bestie with his lost love is a huge part of the story line, but as much as I adore Max at the center of everything, I really wanted Jason and Maddy to be the focus throughout the entire story, and there were parts that put them in the background, reveling more so in Max’s over-the-top antics than anything else.
Overall, I loved being back in Rachel Van Dyken’s quirky and unique world; it’s good to know that even though Max, Colt, and Reid have found the one for them that they still know how to raise a little hell and cause quite a bit of mayhem regardless of the fact that they are in love. The comedic shtick is strong with these boys, so there’s never a dull moment when they’re all together, which is both a blessing and a curse for the women who put up with them!
4 Poison Apples

I can’t believe that this is one series by Rachel Van Dyken that I hadn’t read before and well that will be rectified asap. If you are like me and haven’t read the previous books, don’t worry you can read The Consequences of Rejection as a standalone. From the very first few pages, I was already cracking up. The banter between all of the characters was spot on and some of the best I have ever read. You can’t help but laugh out loud at some of Max’s antics and Jason’s unfortunate luck. The Consequences of Rejection is a second chance romance filled with laughs, sweet moments and forgiveness.
Jason and Maddy were high school sweethearts until Maddy broke Jason’s heart when she ran away. He never understood why she did and it really broke him because they had been best friends before becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. When she comes back to town he is still angry and hurt but can he forgive her and can Maddy explain what happened to make her run. I swear I don’t think I have ever read or known someone as unlucky as Jason was, I mean when you read the book you can’t help but ask what else if going to happen next to this poor guy. I understood where Maddy came from when she decided to run, I felt for her but I also wish that she would have spoken with Jason because it is obvious that these two are meant for each other.
The Consequences of Rejection was hilarious, sweet, and yet another great book from Rachel Van Dyken. I can’t wait to be able to read the previous books because this gang is already in my heart and I want more. This is a must read romantic comedy and one that will have you laughing out loud from the very start.
