Spite Club (Mason Brothers Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 2,395 ratings

First Rule of Spite Club: Don’t fall for your fake boyfriend.

Here’s what happened: My boyfriend cheated on me with Nick Mason’s girlfriend.

We’re both angry. What better way to get revenge than to pretend to get together out of spite?

Nick is rude and rebellious and completely freaking gorgeous. He's not my type, and I'm not his. There's no way we would work outside of our little game of dirty sex and well kept secrets.

The problem is, he's an addiction. Or maybe a plague. The more time I spend with him, the more I risk my good-girl image and my carefully built life.

I might want what's bad for me. I might want Nick. And I might have to convince him - if I can survive him.

(audiobook) This book was an excellent surprise! The beginning is unexpected, and it’s just the first of many surprising scenes. Until an ending I didn’t see coming.

It isn’t your usual romance. There’s a lot of lust–and the intimate scenes are scorching hot–and it is never mistaken for love. At least, not right from the start. Evie and Nick’s relationship needs to evolves bit by bit, and at first, it’s mostly attraction. But they discover each other, and I really enjoyed how they interfere with each other’s life.

There’s nothing conventionally romantic in this story. And yet, the small attentions they show to each other were the expression of deep feelings. There was also a bit of humor, and some drama with their families–also unusual family situations. Maybe the story and the characters deserved a bit more depth, more time/pages.

The narration was perfect! Both narrators were well matched with their characters. I loved the energy of the female narrator and the mood of the male narrator. I can’t wait to listen to them again in the next book in the series!

I haven’t expected to like and have so much fun while reading the book, as I did. It’s funny, it’s sexy and it’s full of surprises.

Evie gets a phone call that her boyfriend is cheating on her. When she gets there, she finds him with another girl and the mysterious caller, who is actually the other boyfriend. He thought it was only fair that he calls her too. :)

Evie is crushed. She spends most of her adult life trying to be the good girl, to fix the mistakes of her adolescence. She gets a sensible job, a steady boyfriend and had a plan. That all comes crumbling down. The only bright spot is knowing Nick.

They pretend to date, to piss off her ex-boyfriend, but the more time they spend together, the less fake it feels until it’s too late.

He is nothing but trouble, the ultimate bad boy. He brings out the parts of her that she tried very hard to squish down and helps her find her backbone in the process.

It’s a steamy, fun romance, that touches your heart a little bit too. :) My favourite part is his brother. :)

I’ve had the misfortune lately to be stumbling on Romance novels with the tropes I usually like to have those tropes be nearly resolved 20% in and then what follows is either mind-numbingly boring or needlessly angst. This is my second Kriss novel and I am happy to say that it is slow enough burn for anticipation but not so slow for impatience. I enjoyed these characters quite a bit, and the angst was normal angst not over the top are you for real why angst.

From what I can tell this is my first book by this author. Sometimes it gets hard to tell or even remember when I read so many books a year.

The premise wasn't that different then some of the other books I have read. I have read numerous books where the main characters are pretending to be together, a couple.

What was different is the reason, the motivation of these two main characters ... SPITE.

Evie's boyfriend of 4 months (Josh) is cheating on her with Nick's girlfriend. Josh & Evie both work together as tellers at the same bank.

Evie gets a call from an unknown man (Nick) alerting her that her boyfriend Josh is going to be beat up and that he is cheating on her. Nick is already on his way over there now. Evie rushes over there as well.

That's when Nick & Evie meet face to face for the first time. They are both attracted to each other. Like opposites attracting. Neither is what the other person usually goes for in the "looks" department though.

Nick is rich, looks like a biker and spends most of his time just partying.

Evie use to be wilder in her younger days after her Dad died. Now she tries to live her life on the straight and narrow, according to what her Mother wants. She wants, no , she craves her Mother's approval. A part of that is having a boyfriend like Josh.

I did like the two main character's together.

The problem was all this other drama coming from their family issues that took away from their romance. Their story.

Evie's Mom being uptight, having a stick up her butt. Nick's parents basically not wanting to have anything to do with Nick or his Brother.

Then the whole thing with Nick's Brother (Andrew). Andrew is paralyzed in a wheelchair from an accident, plus he has tried to kill himself in the past. Nick feels like he has to take care of Andrew. Always making sure that Andrew is okay.

All that really weighs down a book that I was hoping would just be a hot sexy read. It was all just too much! Taking away from the romantic aspects of this book.

The ending really leaves a lot to be desired. It was disappointing frankly. I needed more from both characters, more emotion. Where was their big moment?

Chapters 24 & 25 are the epilogues.

This book has so much... entertaining and surprising, heartwrenching and tender, and of course plenty of hot and spicy.

Her boyfriend cheated with his girlfriend and now Nick is suggesting they pretend they are dating to spite their exes. What could possibly go wrong?

With pasts that damaged them in different ways they will each battle through the process of letting someone in to discover a relationship they didn't realize they needed or wanted.

I loved how the crazy and unexpected start to Evie and Nick's relationship gave us a glimpse into the man Nick tried to hide from everyone.

it started a little slow, but once the main characters started the relationship, that's when it got very interesting, and I really liked them as people and as a couple. My biggest complaint – it's too short! I want more! I want more Nick and Evie. Not more s&x, I want to see them in their every day life. It's just cruel to write such great characters in such an interesting relationship and then boom it's over… nah, you gotta go back and write this book 200 pages longer! Nick&Evie4ever !

This was a Free book (through Bookbub) to me but having read it, I can honestly say that I would happily pay for a future book if she continues this as a series. The book is well written, has a really good story with far more depth than you expect from the blurb of two people getting together as a means of "Revenge" against the partners who cheated on them. We first meet Evie when she's roused from a deep sleep by a phone call from Nick, telling her "... I'm about to go beat your boyfriend to a pulp!" She races over to her 'boyfriend's house only to find Josh her 'perfect boyfriend' rolling around clutching his bleeding face, the phone caller looking down with disdain and an unknown female dancing around obviously naked underneath one of the boyfriend's T-shirts,screeching about the fact he'd been hit.As they leave is when they come up with the plan to rub salt in to their 'wounds' by pretending to get together. So far, so predictable you're thinking to yourself? I know that's what I thought, but in this book? Not at all as obvious as you think. There's real depth to the protagonists that unfolds as the story continues and Nick is shown to be far from the rich, lazy waste of space he appears at first glance to be, equally Evie's wild behaviour that's hinted at but hidden to start with is shown to have it's beginning from a genuine trauma during her adolescence. All in all I can wholeheartedly recommend this book to you. It has humour, a real depth and a plot. The sex isn't just blatent, in your face and thrown in for the sake of filling up pages as it is in other 'Erotic Fiction', rather than being part of a developing relationship between the two characters You will come to care about Nick and Evie, and you'll want to know what comes next, and wish them a Happy Ending even when you aren't sure that they're going to get there together! I will be reading more books by Julie Kriss and I bet I'm not alone in wondering whether we'll be getting Andrew's story too. I.would love Andrew to have a Happily ever after of his own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Die Rache der Betrogenen...
Reviewed in Germany on March 30, 2018
