Skater Boy: A Patchwork House Standalone Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 126 ratings

★★★★★ "Skater Boy combined so many of my favorite things beautifully into one unique novel. Strong and defiant, yet compassionate heroine. Obsessive alpha male. Angst. The down-to-the-bone, soul-crushing kind of love. Once Skater Boy was over, I couldn’t pick up anything for days. It was so beautifully unique. Read this book. Breathe this book. Obsess over this book. Flip will stalk your heart, and you’ll so desperately love every second of it."

Patchwork House is a boy’s club—a mean boy’s club. They made an exception for Tweetie once, and they’re about to make another, because she’s coming home.
After two years away and one too many broken hearts, Tweetie swore off skaters—but she never expected Flip.
Flip was the most famous skater in the world until he traded his place at Patchwork with the little girl whose life he ruined. Now Tweetie’s all grown up, and one chance encounter brings them together. He knows the right thing to do is disappear before things get ugly, but he was never very good at being good.
She’s back, and so is he—all bets are off. Nothing will stop this bad boy from finally getting his lost girl. They're written in the stars, and it's time she knows it.
The first lesson Flip taught Tweetie was how to fall.
It was also the last thing she remembered when they met again, because she didn’t just fall for him.
She slammed.

Rebels. Misfits. Bad boys who rule the streets. Everyone’s welcome at the worst kept secret in town, just as long as you don’t mind getting your reputation—and your heart—a little dirty.

Welcome to Patchwork House…

I loved this book!
There was such great world building! Awesome intense characters that I want MORE from !! And I can’t wait for the next books in this series !
Tweetie and flips worlds collide at a skate park when they are just kids , obvious that fate brought them together what they don’t know is that day changes everything !
It’s raw and gritty , messy and emotional but their journey is far from over .
The four gods of patchwork house become her family , but they are in for a twisted ride .
This was my first ‘skater’ type book. I loved that it was so different to other sport type books!
There’s a lot of action and even the romance, although very much a slow burn is captivating and the embers burn bright the whole time ! It was so well written !!! Really loved it !!

Ok, this was my first book by this author and it took me half off the book to get into the story. I found the first half kinda clunky and dis-jointed and I think most of that was because of the abrupt conversations. The second half flowed a lot better for me and I really got into it and enjoyed. As for the storyline...
Tweetie is a very naive, sheltered girl, even though she’s grown up around 3 of the 4 Rebel Gods. These guys keep her sheltered by not having real and proper conversations with her. Every time she asks an important question they either divert the conversation or ignore it altogether. When the events of the accident finally come to light, they still don’t talk properly but at least they finally make sentences. I liked how this was set in the 80’s. The discrimination against ‘their kind’ felt genuine and something I remember when I was a kid.
I’m hoping King actually uses his voice in his book but I look forward to Daniel and Romeos’ stories.

I heard a lot about this book in my groups, how good it was, so I decided to check out this "new to me" author for myself. Am I glad I did! I loved this book, and now will be reading more of Ms Gebhard's books!

The misfits who live at Patchwork House have a "no girls" rule that is broken the night after a tragedy that changes their lives and they bring Tweetie to live with them. Three rebel gods run the home and become Tweetie's family. Another exiled god, Flip, is always in the shadows, watching out for her. There are so many secrets abounding and Tweetie and Flip's relationship is a series of twisting pathways that go from the past to the present in the telling of this story . Dual POVs help clarify.

The angst in this book is over the top! I LOVE angst! I felt Tweetie's insecurity and pain. I hurt for Flip every time he had to walk away. And the other rebels, King, Daniel, and Romeo, were all fighting their own demons, yet were all so close and took care of each other and the younger kids at their house. If course, Tweetie was their top priority. The connection between Flip and Tweetie could not be denied, no matter how much Flip and the others tried to discourage it. And there was always the love between the 4 guys, broken as it was at times. I was very happy with the way the book ended.

This book was unputdownable and I am looking forward to the next book about King! FIVE FLIPPING STARS!

One of the things I love about books is the ability to get lost in a story. That was this story. Even though I found myself confused in this story, I still couldn't have stopped reading because this author had me entranced. And trust me when I said I was confused. I didn't understand the lengths they went to keep a secret. What I did understand though, was a master author had woven a tale that had me caring about characters and an outcome. That takes skill. Mad props to this author.

Skater Boy is my first read by Mary Catherine Gebhard and it was everything. All the feels wrapped up in one book. I absolutely fell in love with Tweetie and Flip. From page one I was completely sucked in. If I didn’t have a day job, I would have read it in one day. Tired eyes this morning from staying up until midnight but it was worth every word. So beautifully written I nearly highlighted the whole book. Definitely one of my top reads this year! LOVE!!!

“She was spring. She was light. She was forbidden fruit I promised myself I would only taste, not bruise or bite. As she trembled like I knew she would, I knew I wouldn’t let go. I couldn’t. Not again.” - SKATER BOY
.
Flip & Tweetie were EVERYTHING. This story had me enthralled from the very beginning to the very last sentence.
.

I loved Tweetie’s tom-boy nature & her place as “Princess” of the Rebel God’s of Patchwork House. &&& OH.MY. The rebel gods were my favorite. Every single one of them so unique. I can’t wait for all their stories, but Nate “Flip” is impossible not to fall HARD for. That boy & his protectiveness, provision, & battle against himself ... woof, loved the angst in his journey.
.

If you like slow burn, second chance, witty, & angsty reads...this is one of my favorites for 2019
