Fast forward 15 years and Nix has transformed into something he thinks is unlovable and terrifying. Can Becca be the one to see past the outer layer to what lies beneath? Or will the past return and claim another victim?
Plenty of twists and turns in this story and a shocker you may not see coming, just brilliant.
I absolutely enjoyed the book and the dialog between the characters was fantastic, funny and entertaining.
It would of got a 5 from me if i didnt want more from the ending....perhaps an epilogue? i dont know. it just doesnt feel finish finish if it makes sense. Otherwise would highly recommend it!
Now, I haven't read Beast (which is the story about secondary characters in this book) but that did not matter to me at all - in fact i didn't realise Beast was connected at all until after I finished reading.
I adored Becca and Fenix's story. It is dark and gritty - and a lot stalkery - however it is, beneath it all, a beautiful love story.
I just wanted Nix and Becca to make it - there were so many hurdles thrown in their way, I needed them to fight their way to a HEA.
I adore the main secondary characters, Henry and Dick (from Beast). They are the perfect best friends that a woman can have.
Now, I am a fan of tattoos and have plenty of my own, however I am not a fan of face work. This did not, however, stop me from swooning all over Nix. His actions speak so much louder than ink.
Mercy is full of fun and flirting and sexy times, along with darkness and suspense and some not so nice people.
I was intrigued from the first word to the last.
Ms Anastasia has proven the she can write anything and keep me interested. From fun and flirty, to gross-out purile, to dark and dangerous - I will read it all.
Can't wait to see what she brings us next.

This book landed on my to-read-list because of it’s gorgeous cover. It collected dust there for a long time because I was too busy with writing, but I was glad I finally found the time to dive into Mercy.
This is the first book I read from Debra Anastasia, and it certainly won’t be the last. Although I write contemporary romance myself, I’m usually quite indecisive in my choice of books to read because most of them are the same. In this genre, it’s either military or MC romance, but this is something new.
Nix aka Mercy is not the usual badass-alpha-male, I’m-tattooed-because-it’s-cool guy. He’s burdened with a horrible trauma from his childhood which is why he covered himself in a skeleton tattoo from head to toe. Debra managed to make the reader feel what Nix feels. Nothing felt out of place. What she writes feels realistic and is never exaggerated. Nix is brutal but just. He’s not a macho with a big mouth despite his physics and scary tattoos, and I like that about him.
I also love Debra’s writing style. While it’s plain simple with short sentences, it brings things straight to the point. No unnecessary phrases, no super long sentences. Her language is clean, and the story is straight-forward. This is really something considering the book has over 400 pages which is quite unusual for a stand-alone in this genre. It’s proof that the author knows how to create a story with depth.
Can’t wait to read Animal’s story in Havoc!
Then, the girl… again stellar friendships between Henry and Becca, these gals are besties and truly have each other’s back; in fact this story shows solid friendships all round. Mercy is not, I repeat not a knuckle dragging “MINE” moron like we find in this genre of lesser writers! He is a good person who does shady things as any adult who has had no parenting or structure in his life but he knows he’s doing wrong even when the reasons are plausible, you can’t help but love him; he is every bit still the little boy in a man’s tattooed body looking for the moment to reveal himself to his long lost hero, his little lollipop girl from long ago…
Fenix Churchkey had a horrible, horrible childhood. The only thing that gave him the strength to make it through each day were thoughts of the little girl who stood up for him one day when all hope was lost. Rebecca Dixie Stiles was the only person Fenix had ever seen stand up to his father, and she was just a little girl. But by standing up to him, Fenix knew she would now be a target, that his father would obsess about her until the day he decided to exact his revenge on her.
Rebecca was one really cool chick. She was headstrong and faced her fears head on. She was also fiercely loyal to her friend Henry and to her mother, even though she suffered through countless attempts by her mom to set her up with a future husband. She sees Nix (Fenix) in the bar she works in one night and she's immediately mesmerized.
Nix has been watching Rebecca for years, trying to make sure she's safe. He watches her from a distance, knowing that his appearance would probably scare her off, but that's okay, as long as she's safe and happy. But he goes to the bar she works in one night when they have a costume themed party and finally meets her in person. And once he meets her, all restraint is gone and the man who prides himself on being in control at all times is suddenly losing it.
Debra tells this story in dual point of view so we get to see how both of these characters feel and what they're thinking. There's a lot of internal thoughts happening but Debra did a great job of balancing their thoughts with the amount of action occurring. And there's a lot of action occurring.
This story kept me glued to the pages to see what was going to happen next. Not only in the action department, but with the relationship between Nix and Becca. How can these two be together with everything that Nix has done in his lifetime? Becca is a sweet, innocent girl, and he's Mercy, the street name he uses when he's doing the jobs he's hired to do. What's going to happen when she finds out who he really is? Is there any hope of them having a future together?
I think people are going to be really drawn into this story. And I know they're going to fall in love with Animal, Nix's best friend. I was so excited to see at the end of the book that he'll be getting his own book very soon. It took me a little while to get used to the writing style Debra used in writing this book. It felt a little disjointed initially but I quickly got acclimated with how NIx and Becca conveyed their internal thoughts and feelings and once I did that, the story flowed smoothly. Even though Nix is a sort of anti-hero, readers are going to quickly fall in love with him.
Bravo, Debra, for bringing us a new hero to love! Not just Nix but Becca too!! And the supporting cast of characters rounded out this incredible story. Bring on Animal!!
Therefore, be yourself. Be fierce and kind to other. It can make a difference.
This book is very much in the vein of the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood. If you liked it, you'll like that book. If you have not read it yet,
read it.
Very entertaining. As usual from Debra.
