Long Lost: A Small Town Enemies-to-Lovers Romance Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 838 ratings

Brand new stand alone from NYT and USA Bestselling Author Cora Brent! Forbidden friendships, second chances and small town secrets.

We should have been enemies from the beginning.
But we were children when we met and children tend to ignore such rules.
Even if the rules exist for a reason.
Because Jonathan came from a family of savage killers.
While I was born into the broken aftermath of their victims.
For one short season we were inseparable.
All it took was one terrible day to turn us into strangers.
For years I refused to even think about him.
Until he shows up here, far away from where we started.
The gentle boy I remember has grown into a volatile man with a steely glare and a different name.
He won’t admit to who he is.
Or where he comes form.
Or who we are to each other.
And I knew I shouldn’t have provoked him.
I knew I shouldn’t have touched him.
Most of all I knew I shouldn’t have given him my heart.
Yes, Jonathan and I were born to be enemies.
And maybe that’s how our story will end after all…

Caris and Jonathan met when she moved for the summer to stay with her Aunt and became friends. Their families share a past that comes between them and they become estranged. Fast forward nine years, and Jonathan, now known as Jay, returns to Texas to help his friend in his time of need. Jay was shocked to come in contact with Caris and despite his attempts to stay off of her radar, he felt himself being pulled to her. Their struggle to overcome their past was not easy but they persevered and were able to find the balance to become exactly what each other needed. I loved how the story was written in both the present and the past giving the reader insight as to the history of the families. Cora Brent has written another wonderful story filled with heartache and redemption. This is definitely a journey that you will want to be a part of.

I really liked this story. “Friends to lovers” and “second chance” aren’t really my thing, but the way this was told was pretty much the only way I enjoy them. The H and h met when they were 13 and didn’t realize that there was decades of bad blood between their families. They were besties and were torn apart by circumstance the same summer. Once they reconnected (and Jay was able to get out of his own head) they fell the same way they did the first time.
Completely safe.
h is a virgin, but not an innocent inexperienced one, it’s more like a technicality
H isn’t but there is 0 other woman drama and from what I recall the only mention of his history was a memory of his first bj that popped up when he was recalling getting his first tattoo (it was the same girl and he was 16)

Prepare yourself to go on an epic journey of family, friendship, fate, anger, hatred and love. Emotions are very much the fuel for this romance. Caris and Jay are complex characters that are easy to feel for. The intense attraction, powerful connection and simmering chemistry between these two when paired with the tragic and complicated history they share gave off a very "star-crossed" Romeo and Juliet feeling. I admit that I am not always a huge fan of a lot of back and forth in timelines of the books I'm reading but when you take into consideration the story being told and everything there was to learn and discover, I felt it was necessary and done very well. It never seemed intrusive or to impede the flow of the book. If you like a book that delivers plenty of feels while keeping you on the edge of your seat, you really must read this book.

First off if I could give Cora a 100 stars or more I would absolutely do it in a heartbeat. I have been a true loyal fan of Cora's from the beginning and her books have been absolutely fantastic, but with Long Lost this book blew me away and ugly cry ,but I pretty much ugly cry and have one hell of a book hangover with her books and this book is no different ,but I have to say it reaches into my soul and rips it out and has me so enthralled that I couldn't put it down. This book is about young teenager love that's not supposed to happen between Caris Marano and Johnny Hempstead , but it does and when they find out the past between both families can their friendship survive or will destroy them ? , but time passes and see each other again can they get over the past and move forward or is there to much heartbreak and anger that's going to keep them apart? I have to say this one of my top 3 favorite books of all times and all them have been Cora Brent books. This book is a absolute must read one and I am so proud of Cora Brent for writing yet another Amazing book.

Not sure how to rate this. Cora is a great author but I thought this book was a little boring.

Great book, captivating story, unexpected twists, the ending was a bit lacking. Didn't touch on Rafe and his veiled threats at all, was a little confused as to why to mention him at all with this being a SA ,would've preferred a definitive answer to who killed Nancy and Richard Chaple, although it's heavily implied it wasn't Billy. Buy besides those two things this book was surprisingly good!!

✔️Heartbreak

This book was emotional, heartbreaking and beautiful.

Johnny later known as Jay had a troubled upbringing to say the least and his story will definitely pull at your heartstrings.
Caris was friends with Johnny from a young age and their families were to be always connected but later in life with yet another traumatic life event their friendship turned into enemies.
I loved their journey and how one decision to help a friend put them in the right place at the right time and fate took care of the rest in the end.

Cora always knows how to
Pull at your heartstrings and creates a beautiful story that actually touches your soul.

Are brooding, kinda broken, sexy AF heroes are your thing? Long Lost is a must read!!

Jay and Caris met when she was almost 13. They both had a rather rough childhood full of some serious tragic situations. and when they parted, it was not as friends. Flashforward and years later, fate had brought them together. It was a joy to watch these to navigate around lifes bumps to find happiness at the end? Cora Brent did an amazing job developing these two characters.

What a good book ,sometimes sad but mostly good ,Johnny has a crappy childhood born into a bad family ,caris is a loved child born into a tragic family ,they both meet and instantly bond but life isn't so good to both of them and they sadly fall out and never see each other for years but when they do they're the same but different ,not kids anymore ,I read it in a day ,easy to get into and not so long that it gets full and a epilogue which I always love

I loved reading the love story of Caros and Jay very much. It's a breath of fresh air with an intense and gripping storyline unlike any other stories in this genre. However, I feel like this book took too much effort in building up but ends in a rush. I understand that there is a history between the two leading characters that needed to be told but I am disappointed that in this process, in the end, it didn't deliver enough current story between the two. I loved Jay and Caris, they are strong characters in their own way, especially Caris as a strong female protagonist. Not so often you meet a girl like her in such love stories. Even the side characters like Shane,Lana, Rafer, all are drawn in such mastery that it helps in bringing the life and necessary depth in the main characters and story in the most efficient way. The content of the story is great but what I enjoyed the most is the way it has been told. The style of the author is fabulous and she unfolds the story gradually while holding the attention of the readers till the end. I highly recommend this book.

Angsty and heartfelt, this is a Romeo and Juliet tale (though with the happy ending) of two kids who meet and become best friends only to discover their families are on opposite sides of tragedy. They ignore their families resentments to form their own opinions and relationship but eventually life and more tragedy pulls them apart and they leave resenting each other. They re-meet unexpectedly years down the track and we get a great enemies to lovers story as they work through their feelings and family tragedies.

A great read. Well written with lots of depth and layers
