Heartwrenchingly beautiful right from the start. C.A Harms is going to touch people's souls with this book and I honestly believe this is been her most heartbreakingy beautiful book to date. I found this book to be so beautiful it ripped at my heart and buried soul deep from the beginning. There are many books that you can read that you remember but this one will stay with me for a long time. The dynamic of the story was a beautiful way to capture the heart of the reader.

I honestly don't know how to describe how beautiful the people are in this book, the emotion you go through reading this book is like a journey that you are travelling with them and you are feeling everything with them. You will definitely cry with them, a lot of crying and you will laugh with them. This is definitely a beautiful storyline that is every bit an emotional rollercoaster that will hit you high and low and this beautiful story will be hard to forget. The loss and love in this book will get you emotionally invested with these beautiful people.

I absolutely adore this author and her style of writing and I adored reading about this couple. I would recommend this book to anyone who love an epic love between beautiful souls that speak to your heart. I honestly hope if you love this book as much as I have.

Have you ever had a book that made you full ugly cry within the first couple of pages ? Because this is exactly what this book did too me. It absolutely shattered on more than one occasion and to be honest I don’t think I’ll ever recover.

It’s deep, emotional, angsty, tragic but most of all a beautiful love story. Told from three different POVs, this story will make you want to hold your loved ones a little longer at night.

I want to say so much more but in fear of spoiling the storyline I won’t. Just go into it blind, I promised you won’t regret it!!

For me, I was fighting back the tears at the second page. By the third, I gave up and let them loose. Luckily I was at the back of the bus out of sight. The tears came in waves over the next 10 chapters until light at the end of the tunnel started to appear. The author is insightful and intuitive and has woven a complex story with sensitivity, compassion and warmth. I fell in love with all of the characters and would highly recommend this book. Don't let my emotional sensitivity put you off - I'm just a sucker for great love ending far too soon and tragically.

It’s the truth, Don’t Be Afraid is my favourite book of hers to date. I have to admit to hating ugly cry books with a burning passion, and I’ve only read a couple, refusing to read them ever, until now. 2018 is the year I am challenging myself to do so, and already this book is my reward.

Cancer is insidious, and has affected every one of us through our friends or family. And in the telling of Patrick and Sawyers’ story, CA has told the story of so many young couples who have lived it. Even I knew a friend of a friend whose life was exactly this.

The words are loaded with emotion, and please, do not let me put you off when I say that I cried until it was hard to read through the tears. You will absolutely be missing out on one of your top reads for 2018.

Patrick and Sawyer have a passionate love and marriage. Things weren’t always perfect, but it only served to strengthen their love, and they were both beautifully balanced characters suffering all the foibles of being vulnerable and human. Add to the mix the strong and loyal friendship that Gage has had with Patrick since childhood, and you have the perfect storm of love, loss, anger, acceptance, moving on slowly and discovering love once again. My words cannot give justice to the beauty of the this book.

I also know, that I’ll never look at that cover again without crying. 5 stars for a book that must be read.

Now, in the spirit of my 2018 ugly cry reading, I’d best go look for that other book.

This one will be a tearful, bumpy, heart wrenching, emotional ride, but the sun will shine again, you'll realize there’s a smile on your face, and you’ll read the last word of this book with an overflowing heart and a happy sigh. No, this isn’t a fluffy, hearts and flowers romance, but a story that is starkly authentic, emotionally raw and heartbreakingly beautiful.

We spend the first part of the book with Patrick and Sawyer, a young married couple. We see their undying love and devotion, their bickering and teasing and their hopes and dreams. They have a home they’ve purchased and are planning to fix up, fill with children and grow old together in. Then Sawyer reveals to Patrick that she’s pregnant, on the same day he gets devastating, life altering news.

The focus then shifts to dealing with all the emotions of terminal illness. The desperation to make each day, each moment, count, and store up as many memories as possible. The devastation of watching the one you love leave little by little, bit by bit, day after day, as pieces of your heart leave with them. The crippling grief, paralyzing fear and raging anger at the loss and unfairness of it all. And then, the wreckage that is left after the person you thought you would spend your life with is gone, and no amount of praying or wishing or dreaming will bring them back.

Then finally comes the journey of healing. Whether she wants to or not, Sawyer has to go through the motions, at the very least. She has a young daughter who needs her and family who refuse to let her fall. Patrick’s family is her family, and his best friend, Gabe, is her best friend. They’re determined to honor Patrick, keep his memory alive, and keep the promises made to be there and take care of Sawyer and baby Abigail.

This book gutted me. It shattered my heart and ripped my soul to shreds with its relatable, down-to-earth characters and everything they faced. If you’ve ever lost a loved one to terminal illness or know someone who has, you’ll see all of those old emotions stirred up and brought to the surface as you experience this story. From Sawyer expecting Patrick to be sitting there when she walks into a room to Gabe's guilt trying to keep his word, it will all ring true. But piece by piece, Ms. Harms put me back together and healed my heart right along with these amazing characters. Through the support and interactions from the various parental figures, even making me laugh at Gabe's mother. Through the delight of watching Abby develop and the adults in her life teaching her about her father. Through Sawyer finding herself smiling and laughing, and through Gabe resolving his guilt and giving himself permission to love his girls fully and completely.

And is it wrong that I have a huge girl crush on Patrick’s sister, Willow? A secondary character, but a significant one, she’s the voice of experience and wisdom who's not too grown up to wear princess pajamas with her niece. I’d love to see her have her own HEA story because it will take a very special man to be her hero and I’m so not ready to let go of these characters! I may be going through my own stages of grief now that this book is over. It easily gets a place on my list of top ten of all time and is one I’ll return to again and again. If you only read one book this year, make it this one. It will stay with you long after the last page, and your life will be richer for having read this phenomenal, beautiful, heartfelt story.

Let me start by saying that I HATE to cry when reading books. I even have a couple of authors that I now refuse to read because they gave no warning that the book was a tearjerker. That being said, I knew before I ever picked this book up that I would be crying. I told myself over and over again not to read it. My husband also told me not to read it. Then I decided to look at the reviews and was astounded by the amount of four and five stars and thought “ ok, this is going to break my heart but something is compelling me to read it anyway “. Boy was I right. I started crying from page one and continued to cry throughout most of the book. I think the author must have either been through this or had someone very close go through this. It is so emotional and heart wrenching and I felt like I was right there with the characters, experiencing these gut wrenching feelings. It honestly made it hard to breath at times. Like I said, I usually won’t read books that make me cry, life is hard enough and I want laughter and joy and warm fuzzy feelings when I read. That’s the reason that I read romance. Something really, really compelled me to read this one and I’m so glad I did. It tore my heart out but also gave so much inspiration. Life does go on and how we choose to go forward makes such an impact. The three main characters had such overwhelming support that it made the book just a little easier to get through. Although I did see the ending coming, the way that it was dealt with and the deep emotional toil it took to get there was amazing. I think this book will always stick with me because of the amount of unconditional love it shows. While I can’t say this book is for everyone, it is definitely for anyone who enjoys an emotional and heartfelt book that will tear you up and then help put you back together. Exceptional book in my opinion.

OMGoodness!! It was a truly spectacular story. But I hate crying!! I literally started on page one and continued nonstop til chapter 24. I almost didn’t finish this story because it was too emotional for me. I had to start switching between Harms’ book and another to act as an emotional dampener when this story got to be too much. I NEVER do that! I like to give each story my complete attention. But I just couldn’t or I would have found myself a sobbing mess in fetal position the entire time. That said, I personally couldn’t give five stars because the emotion Harms gave us in her book was too much for ME to handle. Other readers may give five stars, because it truly was an awesome book but I was overwhelmed for more than half the book. I love when authors are able to write in a way that I as the reader am able to feel the emotions of the characters like they are real people. That is a sign of a GREAT author in my opinion. Brittany C. Cherry is just such an author. However, there is a fine line between too much and not enough. I felt like Harms really needed scenes to give us readers a break from the heavy emotional turmoil in the first 23 chapters. We are given those moments in the last 19 chapters, but not in the beginning.
I recommend this book for those that don’t mind crying over books. It contains one love scene, foul language, and dealing with the slow death of a loved one.
