Craft (The Gibson Boys Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 4,519 ratings

They're not quite enemies. Not really friends. More like frustrated balls of sexual tension and neither will give in.

Lance Gibson drives Mariah Malarkey absolutely crazy. He uses her office like a phone booth, takes cupcakes from the corner of her desk like she baked them just for him.

She didn't.

Maybe she knew the history teacher happened to love peanut butter icing, but that was purely a coincidence. All sixteen times.

Mariah has a way of getting under Lance's skin too. She calls him out on his crap, spoils him even if inadvertently, and seeing the librarian in skirts drives him wild. She won't give in.

It's for the best, really, considering there's no way he could lie to a woman like that and he's not about to tell her the truth about himself. Not in a million years.

These two don't hate each other. They don't really like each other. But for this to be a friends-to-lovers story, they have to start somewhere, right?

Lance is one of the feisty wild Gibson brothers. He is the playboy intellectual who is always DTF. Mariah is the sweet quiet and smart librarian. Unlikely pairing but it’s 🔥

Mariah and Lance aren’t enemies and not friends, so are they considered frenemies? Lance always bothers Mariah in her office, she puts up a front of hating it and being bothered every time Lance welcomes himself and takes her bake goodies. But secretly she takes pleasure in having Lance taste all the bars, muffins, and cupcakes and notes on his favourite icing.

I really liked their connection. They both helped each other with their own situations and it really warmed my heart. As Lance said, this road led them to each other and I couldn’t be happier for them!!

Maybe if I read this faster I would have fallen more in love with it.

This story was so good...to write about such a sensitive topic ...it takes some special understanding...and I love how when talking about love and what it all entails with characters two opinions only to have both of them fall unconditionally in love with one another was truely heartfelt...I love it!!! I hope were hear more about Lance and Mariah...they deserve to get their happily ever after family and all!!

I cannot believe it took me so long to read this book. From the moment I started the first chapter, I knew there was going to be something special about this book. I mean who can resist a handsome teacher like Lance Gibson? I loved the dynamics between Lance and Mariah and how they were coworkers but it was a slow gradual shift to something more between them. I loved their back and forth banter, the playfulness they had between each other, the sweet and tender moments and I loved how they weathered the tough times together. I also loved seeing more of the Gibson boys throughout this novel. Those guys are the best and I cannot wait to continue the series and see each of the boys get their happy ending. This book is number 2 in the series but it can be read as a standalone if you prefer, but it is my recommendation that you start at the beginning of this series because you don't want to miss out on one moment of the Gibson boys series!

A cute simple read with some heavier emotions but fairly light. It seemed like it was going to go deeper on emotions but ended up being fairly light. My only issue is that some of the circumstances that make Miriah and Lance who they’re are brushed over. As well there isn’t a real explanation of what happened with Eric and Miriahs sister like how did they get together if they didn’t cheat? Despite this I still enjoyed the story.

Audiobook Version Review: Craft is a flirtatious & frolicsome frienenemies to lovers romance. Lance Gibson and Mariah Malarkey are just so adorable together. The banter between these two is so sweet, humorous, & highly entertaining. Lance Gibson stole my heart with his sweeter side. I absolutely adored Mariah & want to be her best friend.
The narration of this novel was flawlessly portrayed. Character's leap off the page and become part of real life. Wen Ross's voice is so absolutely sexy & so swoon worthy. This dual narration is perfect for this series as they truly capture the character's thoughts & personalities. Absolutely love these two narrating this series.
Overall, Craft is a fun romantic read with a bit of angst. A perfect addition to this fun, entertaining series.
I cannot wait to listen to Crave Gibson Boys #3 which is Machlan Gibson's story once it's available.

Well written, good likeable characters, ok plot. No wow factor except the first hanky panky scene. There was two in total. It was a good book, but nothing really in there for me to recommend it.

Craft had me hooked right from the beginning.

Lance is a different character, a character you don’t see in many books and that’s a good thing! He is still an alpha, but in a quieter, softer kind of way. He is a history teacher, who loves books, his students and has a sweet tooth for Mariah’s baking.
The banter between Lance and Mariah is spot on. The story will have you rolling through many emotions, laughing, crying, heart breaking, then will turn around and build you up again.
I have read all of Adriana‘s books and I think Lance is my favourite character! Congratulations on another 5 star book.

I was tempted to give this 3 stars because I was so freaking bored. But the last 3 chapters made up for the whole book, lol.

Such an unexpected book. Lance is one of the few "players" I liked. He is so charming and kind and the secret he hides is pretty hard to deal with. It sort of justifies his lifestyle.
And Mariah such a classy woman with layers as it seems...
There are some nice twists in the story and you can't help fall in love with this universe!
Great read, dual POV, standalone

The boring technical stuff: This book completely stands alone. Although there are other characters from Ms. Locke's books in the story, you do not have to have read them to enjoy this one. There is a lot of swearing (including slang for female genitalia starting with p and f-bombs) and there are a couple of described sex scenes. If you're not a sex-scene fan, you can very easily skim over them and have plenty of amazing story to read as it does not dominate the story. If either of those things will cause you to leave a bad review, you should skip this one but you'll be missing one heck of a good book.

There are a couple of *clearly marked spoilers* in this review.

Trying to decide where to start this review is difficult because there was so much about it that I loved that I don't know what to talk about first. Lance and Mariah. Those two were stupidly perfect for each other from the very start, and I had no doubt that they would find their way to each other, but the journey was an incredible, emotional ride. Mariah was one of the most relatable characters that I have read about in romance novel in a very, very long time. She wasn't tall and svelte with perfect, natural double d's that magically don't sag, and flawless, glossy hair, and she wasn't always dressed in designer clothes with perfect make up; she had flaws and imperfections and was so realistic that I never once rolled my eyes at her. While that might seem like an insignificant thing, it's so rare for a character in the romance genre these days to have a “pooch” or to not be perfect that it really stood out to this normal, imperfect girl who can't relate to a character who is utterly flawless. I also identified with her inner voice and her need to guard herself so much that I wish that she was real so we could be friends. (SPOILER TO END OF BRACKETS: One of her thoughts that most affected me most was “I wonder if I'd be more of a people person had I felt more self-assured growing up.” I have never identified with a character/line in a book more in my life.) Watching Mariah grow more confident and strong as the book went on just made me love her even more. And Lance, although he had his moments that made me curl my lip at his lack of class and his choices, I adored him. He was a bit of a mess, but he was a really good guy at heart, and his big moment at the end broke. my. heart. I adored it. I also loved his moments with Ollie and Brandon, the way that he supported Mariah when she needed it, and every interaction that he had with his family.

Of course, because this is an Adriana Locke book, there were tons of amazing side characters who added a ton of fabulous moments but didn't overwhelm the story. I would happily read a buddy comedy just featuring the Gibson crew going out and doing mundane things because they make even the most boring things fun. Although they were all fantastic, the side character that stuck with me was Ollie. I hope that we learn a lot more about Ollie in the next few boks because I'm completely invested in his future and well-being. Mariah's family made me growl more than once, but I loved how it all eventually worked out (SPOILER to end of paragraph) life isn't perfect and I loved that this solution wasn't all sunshine and rainbows and perfection, but there was hope and that's all we could ask for.

One more little-but-amazing thing is the moment when the title makes sense. It was an absolutely beautiful moment and I LOVED it.

*** MAJOR SPOILERS IN THIS PARAGRAPH *** Of all the things that were amazing about this book, I loved the moment between Machlan and Lance at the cemetery. Although I bawled, I needed that discussion more than anything – probably more than Lance did. Life is difficult right now, but the reminder that blessings come in all shapes and sizes, and that even the worst things in the world can bring out happy outcomes was something that will stay with me forever. Thank you, Ms. Locke, for that reminder.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a well-written not-quite-friends-not-quite-enemies-to-lovers story or just a really well-written story in general. If you're new to Adriana Locke's books, this is a great place to start.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good book by Adriana Locke

I almost stopped reading this book half way through it as I felt like the story was lost in all the F- bombs and constant dialogue abut sex. But then I thought...Adriana Locke would not let her readers down and I am glad I finished the book. Lance and Mariah are 2 fun characters that I liked very much. Their attraction to each other is obvious from the beginning but both have been hurt before and put walls around their hearts. Keeping it light and flirty has become the game they play with each other. As feelings grow it is hard for them to ignore them and they don't but still hold back. As each of their stories evolve I liked them more and more. Lance is such a good person wanting to do the right thing even if it cost him Mariah and what he wants in life. Mariah is not sure she wants to let the walls around her heart fall down and getting hurt again. It is a good story and one that brings a lot of emotions to the surface and thinking what ifs that anyone could go through. I would give it 4.5 stars, not 5 because of how I felt about the first half of the book. I would recommend this book as I would any of her books....I have them all!

Mariah and Lance are work colleagues, they're not exactly friends but there's a mutual attraction. But Lance isn't a relationship kind of guy and Mariah doesn't do one night stands.
I loved these characters and their witty banter. Together with hot sexy scenes and a heart breaking secret, this book a joy to read.
Craft is book 2 in the Gibson Boys series but can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed.
Adriana Locke is a new to me author and I'm excited to read her previous books.
