BREAKER: A Brother's Best Friend Romance (Broody Bad Boys - Silo Springs Standalones) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 3,956 ratings

A TOP 15 AMAZON BESTSELLER!

“Tell me a happy something, Sutton.”

I was only seven the first time Grady Bowen whispered those words to me. Cloaked by the black sky under a blanket of stars, it was easy to get lost. He didn’t have any good memories of his own and needed to borrow mine. I would willingly give him anything.

Being infatuated with that boy was a beautiful curse. What could have been special didn’t get the chance to bloom. He’d never see me as more than his best friend’s kid sister. That was a hard lesson to learn, but not the most difficult.

Grady had always been struggling against the odds. Eventually he quit fighting and let his family’s reputation own him. Try as I might, those influences were beyond my reach.

He didn’t mean to break my heart. Or maybe he did. I shouldn’t have made it so easy for him. Either way, our wrongs against each other carved new lines between us.

I went four years without seeing Grady—each one more painful than the last. That distance did nothing to dull my feelings toward him. But things are different now. Most noticeably is Grady. I barely recognize this man he’s become. And that’s the way he intends to keep it. Not that it really matters.

Grady Bowen stopped being my happy something long ago.

** Happy Something indeed! **

** Happy Something indeed! **
Sutton Olsen has been in love with Grady Bowen, her brother best friend, for almost her entire life - and over the years, her feelings only grown stronger. But Grady never really saw like that... When they first met, Grady was so lost that Sutton began to share "happy things" with him, which became their thing.“𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐒𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐧.”Grady's childhood wasn't easy, to say the least. Dealing with countless of obstacles, disappointments and pain has shaped him to be the man he is today... And dammit, I felt his pain deep in my stomach... Sutton has always been the only bright light to his darkness, but he wont destroy her goodness. For him, she'll always be too good for him... he'll never deserve her - even though everything she wants, is just his heart."𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐲. 𝐈𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝.𝐈’𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝."Even when Sutton went to college, distance and time didn't change her feelings for him... Now that she's coming home after 4 years, it all becomes too painful and she realizes she needs to let him go and move on - but her heart knows what it needs and who it wants. Sutton is a very stubborn girl, for better or worse. She knows what she wants and won't give up until she gets it. But is it possible that the man who never seen her, will become the man who will never let her go...? “𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥?”“𝐒𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐧,” 𝐈 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐥 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐤. “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬.”Their story is a messy journey - full of ups and downs. Sometimes it was painful, sometimes sweet, sometimes frustrating, sometimes romantic... But in the end, it was totally worth it!It's a beautiful story about friendship, acceptance and love with characters you can't help but fall madly in love with!I liked that each chapter opens with a quote of something that makes the characters happy, I want to start my days this way, it was so positive and heartwarming.I really loved Grady, He was such a brooding broken man, and he was so convinced he's unworthy - that all I wanted was to get in between the pages and give him a big hug! I wanted him to find the happiness he deserved.“𝐈’𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.”“𝐈𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞.”Although I really enjoyed the book, there were some things I didn't like... I wont elaborate to avoid spoilers, but there were some things that made me roll my eyes (for example, there were some too easy solution to their problems). And although I totally love sweet story's, there were some parts in the book that felt too sweet for my liking. This book had everything I love in a romantic book - a broken hero, a strong heroine, hot chemistry and lots of heartbreaking, funny and romantic moments. Highly recommend!

You are going to fall all over yourself in LOVE with Grady and Sutton. They. Are. Everything. in this angsty forbidden story. I was shaken by how deep their love is and the hurdles, both internal and external, these two fought. This book belongs on your romance shelf, one of the most moving and inspiring romances I’ve read this year.

Breaker is gutwrenching, full of longing and second chances. An adult story about commitment and denial. And yet… it’s so much more. Harloe Rae is one of those authors who doesn’t fit neatly into little boxes, and this story shows off her narrative gifts and her romantic heart.

“His memories are full of smiles.” I LOVE THIS LINE! I want Gray’s future to be so full of smiles too. Rae writes their love story with so much care. She lingers in moments between them, and builds to their intimate scenes of rapture like she’s painting a delicate piece of china. I was blown away.

Truth, I may have groaned a little and sobbed quietly. It’s really gewd. Even the erotic touches are built on a desperate vulnerability, some of Rae’s best heartbreaking and romantic passages.

Everyone should read it. It’s a fantastic portrait of choices, between want and responsibility, between selfish and selfless love. Told with her lyrical style that spins a dark thread of hope and connection. It’s beautiful. You won’t be able to look away.

Breaker beats with so much longing and brutal truths. Grady and Sutton are real and honest, devoted friends driven apart by fate. And I love how they find each other, and find love. Plus, there's a dog. And happy somethings, and sometimes that's all Grady had. Sigh I love this story.

Sutton grew up as the bright buoy to all the chaos and tragedy that Grady swims in most of his life. She sustains him and keeps his head above water. They had a life long relationship built on ritual and trust.

When Sutton leaves, Grady is forced to move on as well. Only after she returns, can they begin to examine themselves and their relationship as adults. The set up to this story is so well told. I loved it. I loved them falling.

“A floating sensation sweeps over me. There’s serenity whisking within the pain.” Yeah, I know. This book is bulging with these moving sensations. Honestly, my emotions were all over the place. Tears and laughter and a lot of heartache, I was pulling for them so much and fighting my own emotional reactions.

Grady and Sutton deserve each other. If you love great leads, a good cry and a angsty love story, you will love Breaker.

Breaker is an Inspiring Love Story that will emotionally break you and then put you back together again with their HEA. The double epilogues are a bonus, intensely swoony and the touch of suspense is perfect.

Grady Bowen and Sutton Olsen has loved one another since they've met. Grady is Sutton's brothers best friend and he likes to hear something happy from Sutton since life hasn't been good to him.

They were close as kids but once they become teenagers Grady pushes her away. She offers herself to him the night before she leaves for college. He tells her NO, to forget about him and find someone else. Sutton doesn't...

Sutton comes back home for good 4 years later to find that Grady has changed and not in good way. This breaks her heart until he's in a accident, she helps him and he mends her heart by asking her to be his girl.

Gray and Sutt are in love and want forever until someone else wants her for his own and sets up Grady and sends him to jail. Will the truth set him free or will this be the breaking point for them both?

So this book has serious potential, but for me there were too many gaps in the story. Not big huge gaps, but kinda like, “how did we get here” gaps. I don’t know. I feel like the sexy scenes could have been
steamier. Give me details. Tell me what’s going on. Tell me their past. Dive into the details. What caused the distance between them before she left for college? If everyone knew they had feeling for each other, why does everyone wait until they’re together to say something? If it’s “unrequited love” for brother best friend, tell me about. If he has deep feelings for her when they’re younger, tell me about it. If someone else is in love with her let me know for how long and why and what’s going through their mind. It was a quick read, it was enjoyable, but there was so much potential to really dive deep and pull me in.

OMG! I'm so in love with this book!
I suffered a book-hangover and couldn't find the right words.
At first: it's one of my favorite tropes: brother's best friend.

You really feel from the start, that Grady is Sutton's everything and it doesn't change after the prologue or the first chapter.
I wanted to be in Grady's head after this chapter, no, I really wanted to know what he thought in the prologue. Finally in chapter 2 I got an insight and was lost with the words:

"She's the only happy something in my life."

I fell in love with him.
I wanted to hug him.
He is holding back although he loves her deeply, too. It's not because of said trope. He is feeling unworthy for her because of where he is coming from.
....but he was still hoping....the things he made for her because all of the happy something's they shared a long time ago.

Sutton is so perfect for him!
She's there for him, always was, and showed him that he is more than he thought he is.

There is a tiny bit drama for what happened to Grady. No break-off - thank you! Sutton's and Grady's love never wavers as they started their relationship.

I just want to tell you all: read this book!

I can't wait for Keeper now!

Loved it!

I've read a few of Harloe work and they never disappoint! They are my go to inbetween dark reads.

Here we meet Grady and Sutton (I saw them briefly in Loner) and I love their story, their childhood past. Sutton has always known Grady was hers and she was his. Grady felt the same but feels like she deserves better and the fact she his best friends little sister.

They are brought together after four years.... Your have to read to find out but this couple are sent some trials to test them and let me tell you Grady is 😍 Sutton is his light, queen and sunshine ...

No OW drama, NO cheating, Low angst
