Ethan is the boy who climbed into my bedroom every night.

He's everything I love.
Laced with everything I despise.

He's every happy memory.
And every shattered dream.

He's my everything.
But he broke every part of me.

I'm supposed to hate him.
But I can't.
I don't know how.

After spending the long weekend reading Callie Anderson's Fatal Love Series, ILL & ELL etc, I was pleasantly surprised to realise that the heroine in this story was Emilia's best friend Leslie and we finally get to unlock all her reasoning for the many questionable choices Leslie made in IlL & ELL.
I just devoured these books over 3 days and seriously fell in love with each of the characters .
I hate spoilers, so with that in mind, Broken Dreams can be read as a standalone, but if you are a fan of Callie Anderson, you will want to read the other two stories as it will enhance your understanding of Leslie and the 6-8 years that she spends away from home and her first love, Ethan, the boy who ultimately broke more than just her heart.
This second chance love story and the determination of our H in winning his girl back is just heartwarming and I know I will remember each of these characters for a long time to come.
I loved these books so much that I purchased all of the Authors books even after reading them on KU for free.

Callie did it again! She absolutely blew me away with this amazing read! I should probably mention that I might be a little biased because I always wanted to be a ballerina. =P So, I could relate to Leslie easily from the very beginning. But it wasn't just that. The characters were just perfect. Leslie and Ethan shared a special bond and they pulled me right into their bubble when they were kids.

It was heartbreaking to see then, how one moment changed so many lives drastically. And, like in real life, the characters had it in their own hands on how huge an impact it had on their lives. Because in the end everyone has to decide on their own how to deal with it.

The story was told from Leslie's POV and switched between past and present, which made the story a lot more interesting IMO. It was also really easy to follow because both timelines moved forward and weren't just randomly mixed. If you get what I mean.

The Story:
It has been eight years since Leslie saw Ethan the last time. Now she's back in her home town which she couldn't leave behind fast enough all those years ago after what happened. It's not just where she left behind so much but where her dreams shattered and her heart had been broken.
Now it's time for Leslie to face those dark chapters of her life again. Can she overcome what happened and forgive? And most importantly, will she be able to face Ethan again and keep her feelings buried inside?

Thoughts:
This was such an emotional read on so many levels. I loved how Ethan found a safe haven with Leslie and I loved that she had him as her friend in her otherwise strict life. I adored those two kids and their story even if it was hard on Leslie with the constant pressure from her parents but it was especially tough for Ethan.

Ethan had obvious problems in his family, which I don't want to get into detail because you'll read all about them in the book. I think that the problems between Leslie and her parents were a lot more complex and while they differ in the past and present, their relationship stayed strained all the same. I think that the author handled their struggle really well and she'd found a good way to weave it into the story without it being the main focus but still one of the tougher parts in Leslie's life. I also enjoyed how the family slowly found a way to take steps towards each other at the end.

I was positively surprised at how much I loved the switches between past and present because they were woven together so perfectly. Most times when the present awoke memories in the characters from the past, we could experience them first hand with the time switch in the next chapter. I loved this because I prefer to read about the actual situation rather than just the biased memory from one character.

This being said, I highly recommend this read! I could go on and on about how much I love the characters but that would be a waste of time because it would be never ending *haha* It's just better when you go and read this amazing story for yourself while I go right back and re-read it myself =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh the angst!! Loved it!! Huge 5 stars for Broken Dreams!!!

I have to admit. I do love me some Callie Anderson. Ever since she broke on the scene with Endless Love Letter I decided I would follow her to the moon and back. There is just something in her writing that calls to me. She is the master story teller and she sucks me into her world. I just cannot get enough!! She always brings the angst factor and Broken Dreams is no exception! I felt like the entire time I was reading my heart was stuck in my throat. Broken Dreams is a heartbreaking tale that had me rooting for Leslie and Ethan but it felt like fate would always work against them. This is a complete standalone that is told past and present tense.

Leslie first fell in love with Ethan when he came into her bedroom window to escape the hell of his home life. His dad was abusive and it was unimaginable what he had to endure at his father's hand. Since they were ten years old they were inseparable. Leslie had inspirations to make it as a professional dancer and attend the prestige Julliard School of Dance once she graduated high school. Her and Ethan had a plan and they would escape and they would have their happily ever after.

Fast forward eight years and Leslie returns home and to everything she left behind. With graduation on the horizon she thought she had her life planned out. Her dreams where never meant to be and returning home was the last thing she ever wanted to do. That would mean having to face the demons she left behind. It means facing Ethan after all these years. My heart just ached for them. They were destined to be together. They had the epic love story.

What happens to make it all fall apart? Eight years is a long time to run from your soul mate. What happens after all these years apart. Can Leslie find it in her heart to move on? How will the past effect the future? Can they have their second chance at love? You will just need to read Broken Dreams to find out!! This is an epic love story that needs to be read! Another HUGE 5 star read and one I HIGHLY recommend!!

Broken Dreams
By Callie Anderson

Ok so I've sort of fallen in love with Callie Anderson and I'm sad that I have now read all of her words. May we have another Callie?!

Ok- the book. Broken Dreams. Up first, love the nick name freckles. #win

This was a happy book for me. I finished invisible love letters and endless love letters yesterday and I am still recovering. I needed a book that made me happy. This was it.

It was nice to explore Leslie and who she was, and where she came from. Her story was amazing. Her life was challenged in all sorts of ways and it made her strong and loving. I didn't realize this was the Leslie from Love Letters so when I saw Lyras name- I cried. Damn you Callie!

Anyway ~ I adored her love story with Ethan and recommend reading this book to anyone. Especially those still hurting from her former words. It's a second chance romance that has you becoming the cheerleader for future. It's a second chance for almost all of her relationships and just a great turn around book.

Go read it peeps!

I love these reads friends to lovers with a second chance thrown in, what's not to love.

We get the story from past and present which I really don't mind as it was relevant for their story.

Broken Dreams isn't just about what could have been between Leslie and Ethan, but their dream careers that are broken too.

Leslie and Ethan meet when they're kids and their bond is instant, Ethan doesn't have a easy home life so when he climbs through Leslie window he finds solace and happiness in dreaming of what the future might hold. However, things don't work out as they'd dreamed and when dreams are broken lives change. Now fast forward eight years and Leslie is home when she see's Ethan again, things aren't always as straightforward but nothing ever is.

I liked both Leslie and Ethan, but I hated their parents. I love these types of reads, plenty of emotions and I've been massive Callie Hart fan since Love Letter Duet.
